Random Thoughts...

Hello again...

Yes, I realize that this is the THIRD post this week. I'm in Elko, Nevada... remember??? Anyway, I was doing some thinking today in the shower. "In the shower?" you may ask. Why yes, in the shower. For a couple of reasons:
  • There's not much else to do in there
  • No TV, Radio, noisy roomies to distract me
  • Usually I'm totally relaxed and my brain is on overload

Well anyway... I was thinking about a few things and I wanted some other people's perspectives.

Are the "Jesus is my homeboy"/"Mary is my homegirl" shirts disrespectful? I understand and dig the message, but is using hip-hop slang appropriate? I'm still undecided on that fact.

What does Jesus think about the "televangelists" on late-night cable pandering for money? Does He really feel that they are spreading the "Good News"? Does he receive a portion of every dollar? (temples, altars, sacrifice...well, okay, no sacrifices)

That's about all I had today...

Yesterday I enjoyed watching my Iowa Hawkeyes destroy the Wisconsin Badgers to become the Big Ten co-Champions! GO HAWKS! Sing along if you know it: "In heaven there is no beer/that's why we drink it here/and when we're gone from here/our friends will be drinking all the beer!" (For the uninformed: The Hawkeye marching band plays this at all games)

In other news: My best friend Mikey D., with whom I performed in Lonesome Road, has asked his girlfriend Amber to marry him. She said yes. Mikey wants ME to be best man! Talk about responsibility. I think I can handle it though, since the wedding is going to be in St. Thomas. Congratulations Mikey!

That's all the news that's fit to print for now. See you all soon and please remember to help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered! (Sorry.. Bob Barker moment!)

I also get loads of thinking done in the shower unless the radio is on, and then it's a lot of singing. But I try and spare the neighbors from that happening too often.

Jesus...well, the people that taught and spoke of religion around the turn of the century mostly used popular language. It was a more formal popular language, but there were few educated folks back then. I have always viewed my relationship with God to be a personal relationship. God has always made me feel comfortable; like he was my friend, father, provider. My God has a great sense of humor too. He created my sense of humor, so it has to be top notch. For me, it is a sign of being close to God when you can have an informalness about it. Those who only see God as this being that is out "there" or "in church" treats God as an outsider; not as a being that they have coversations with daily. "Pray without ceasing, for this is the will of God" I guess that means go to Him often...all the time. So my guess is that if I were wearing the shirt that it would not be disrespectful. It may be if someone else was though. It depends on them. Bryan@tequilasunriseband.com

I agree with Bryan (although when I first started reading it I thought it was from Ron). If those wearing the shirts are using the language they know and understand to express their belief then "it's a good thing" (oops, Martha moment). If they have another agenda, God will work it out with them in His own way (He always does, you know). I also converse with God frequently, in my own way, 'cause I feel He never intended we would need a Priest or Pastor or whatever to act as a go-between. I truly believe that how you live your life on a daily basis is more important to God than if you regularly attend church or "tithe". Mom

Jesus, my Homeboy, says that "you rock my face off, Sk8r style"! He also requests that you stop thinking in the shower..you should pray instead.
